SUMMARY:8th Annual Design Thinking Hawaii Bootcamp
DESCRIPTION:The 8th Annual Design Thinking Hawaii Bootcamp will be held from Tue\, July 17 at 7:30 AM – Wednesday\, July 18 at 4:30 PM HST. \nThe ability to innovate faster – and in new ways – is critical to achieving high performance and surviving in a competitive world. This year’s Design Thinking Hawaii Summer Bootcamp will focus on building capacity for the implementation of Design Thinking – a human-centered\, prototype-driven process for innovation that can be applied to products\, services\, and business design. The overall goal of the bootcamp is to change mindsets to sustain and accelerate innovation. \nThe Year 8 Edition of the Summer Bootcamp will feature a sponsored challenge facilitated by DTH staff. The theme of the workshop is “Sustainability\,” and the challenge will be focused on\, “How Might We develop a Green Economy industry in Hawaii?” \nThe ‘Design Thinking Hawaii Summer Bootcamps: Changing Mindsets’ will be a high-energy\, experiential two-day learning experience. Participants will collaborate in small\, multidisciplinary teams to solve a hands-on\, customized innovation challenge. The workshop is built upon learning by doing and reflection – and participants learn the phases of the Design Thinking process as they tackle the challenge. The Hasso Plattner Institute of Design’s five-step process (empathy\, define\, ideate\, prototype\, feedback) will be used in the bootcamp. To learn more about Design Thinking\, visit Oceanit’s DT page.

SUMMARY:2018 Schedule PDE3 Altino Coding Cohorts
DESCRIPTION:Oceanit will be hosting Altino coding cohorts in six DOE complexes this coming summer\, scheduled for the three credit professional development for teachers. \nCapped at 25 teachers per class\, teachers will be trained in “C” language using the Altino Coding Cars which make learning computer programming fun\, engaging\, and easy! Teachers will earn three professional development credits\, by doing four days of coding\, and two days of curriculum development with the Oceanit Altino team. Not only will teachers be introduced to code through the Altino robotic cars\, but will also have two days working with other teachers to create new curriculum in their subject areas. For example\, a social studies teacher will incorporate elements of coding to make social studies engaging while teaching coding to students. \nContact Oceanit for any questions about Altino\, information about the summer cohorts\, or to be connected with the local cohort coordinator in your area. \n\nJune 4-9: Honolulu Complex\nJune 11-16: Kamehameha Schools Kapalama\nJune 18-23: Kauai Complex\nJune 25-30: West Hawaii Complex\nJuly 5-6\, 10-13: Castle Kahuku Complex\nJuly 19-20\, 23-26: Nanakuli Waianae Complex\nJuly 23-28: Maui Complex

SUMMARY:Monthly Altino Introduction Lunch Series
DESCRIPTION:Calling our Honolulu Business community! Kamehameha Schools & Oceanit are inviting you to a FREE lunchtime executive briefing on the ‘Altino: coding system for non-coders!’ We are using this fun tool to bring coding to every student in Hawaii. Disruptors & Innovators\, bring your lunch and join us at noon to learn about rethinking education\, critical thinking\, problem solving\, and creativity. \nOnly 1 in 4 schools surveyed in a 2014 Gallup poll commissioned by Google teach coding. At the same time\, 9 in 10 parents want their kids to have the opportunity to learn coding and advanced computer skills and feel it should be part of the curriculum. Yet\, less than half of the 11\,558 superintendents and principals surveyed felt that their boards supported more computer science resources. Many “do not perceive a high level of demand for computer science among students and parents in their communities.” \nMeanwhile\, countries like Finland\, France\, Korea\, the United Kingdom\, and Estonia have either begun planning elementary school-level coding classes or have already integrated them into the curriculum\, leaving the U.S. educational system behind in equipping future workers for what is already a burgeoning industry. Come learn about coding in Hawaii and how Oceanit is working with teachers and educators state-wide using the Altino system! \nOur last summer date for 2018 is coming up! \n\nWednesday\, May 16\, 2018 (12:00 PM)

SUMMARY:DragX Pipeline Surface Treatment Lunch-n-Learn & Webinar
DESCRIPTION:On March 1\, 2018\, Oceanit is hosting an innovative technological breakthrough meeting in our Houston offices. Oceanit will be introducing a novel\, nanocomposite technology surface treatment for internal pipeline integrity\, efficiency\, and repair: DragX. \nThe energy industry has embraced the numerous benefits found in using factory-applied\, flow-efficiency coatings for pipelines. These benefits include increased efficiency & throughput\, reduced pressure drop\, reductions in power use\, mitigation of corrosion on internal surfaces\, reduction in adhesion of debris & paraffin\, and reduced costs of inspection\, cleaning\, and maintenance. However\, shortcomings in past coatings\, application procedures\, and requisite pipeline down-time have meant adoption of in-situ coatings has been minimal.  DragX and Oceanit’s application method now address the shortcomings of in-situ pipeline application. Click here to learn more about DragX. \nRSVP to attend in-person or online \nThe lunch-n-learn will begin at 11:30 CST in Houston. Attendees can join us for authentic Texan BBQ in Houston – or can join remotely by accessing our live webinar on Zoom. \nIf you choose to attend our webinar\, there is an in-browser connection which does not require any downloads or app installations.  However\, if you could like to have the full functionality of VOIP to ask questions during the Q&A\, you will need need to download Zoom’s free app on your computer or device. \nRSVP to attend in-person or online \nOceanit will showcase DragX’s:\n-State of development to-date;\n-The in-field surface treatment technology & properties;\n-Pipeline loop fabrication and application procedures & results;\n-Additionally\, a review of Oceanit’s coatings technology portfolio will also be provided.
