SUMMARY:Altino - Intro 2 Principles of Coding\, Honolulu Complex
DESCRIPTION:PDE3 – two days of coding\, one day of curriculum dev\, and two follow-on online sessions. This course can also be taken for audit. \nCoding\, a.k.a. computer programming\, teaches students how to think critically. Like robotics\, coding is a means\, not an end to engage students. The goal is not to convert students into Computer Science majors! Coding is a way for students to experience and value the experimentation mindset\, i.e.\, the innovation mindset\, which is about creative problem solving\, and how to break down problems. Coding feels very similar to Design Thinking and Robotics because failure is expected\, which means failure really becomes about learning. Coding with the Altino robotic car feels like playing\, but students are learning to think. And they won’t want to stop! \n  \nHonolulu Complex \nCT183892 / Section No. 294279 \nDate: March 20-22\, 2019 \nTime: 8am setup. 8:30am start. 3:30pm end \nLocation: Stevenson Middle School Multi-purpose room. \nRegistration:  https://pde3.k12.hi.us \nMax class size: 30 seats. If full\, still attend as there are always empty seats when we start. \nCost:  $25\, make check out to “Oceanit Laboratories\, Inc. \nEdu Contact: Jerri-lyn Burns\, jerri-lyn_burns/hondo/hidoe@notes.k12.hi.us \nInstructor Contact: Ian Kitajima\, ikitajima@oceanit.com or 531-3017

New legislation will bring computer science to elementary and middle schools by 2025. \nWho: Designed for K-12 teachers to teach coding. DOE approved for 3 credits. Open statewide. \nHow: We kick off live online at 8:00am\, but most of your training is via self-paced videos and online support from our Altino instructors. \nExperience level: No prior computer science or coding experience required. \nSize: only 30 teachers per training.  Wait list for only 10. \nCost:  $0\, but if you register and are a “no show”\, or you drop without a good reason\, you may not be allowed to attend this training again. This is a demanding training – if you are awarded 3 credits it’s because you earned it.     \nSponsors:  Public Schools of Hawaii Foundation\, Kamehameha Schools\, Oceanit Research Foundation\, Toyota Hawaii\, Department of Labor. \nContact: Brett Tanaka at OCID \nVisit HIDOE’s PDE3 website linked below and search ‘Altino’.
