SUMMARY:Redesigning Education for an Online World | Design Thinking Showcase
DESCRIPTION:Please join us on April 24th at 9am HST for the Digital Transformation: E-Learning Models Showcase! \nThe Hawaii Department of Education and Oceanit have been doing a design sprint with 7 design teams made up of teachers\, parents\, community members\, and students to rethink education for an online world. The design teams have been hard at work collaborating and using Design Thinking to develop potential school/complex area models or components for distance/blended learning. \nAt this showcase\, teams will be presenting their ideas and models and soliciting feedback. Everyone’s participation in providing feedback is important as teams move into the final phase of the Design Thinking process! After the designs are finalized\, these new models will be shared with HIDOE Complex Area Superintendents\, Complex Area staff\, and School Principals. Schools and complex areas may consider these models for future distance/blended learning implementation\, as appropriate. \nOur teams are excited to share their design prototypes with you\, and we look forward to seeing you on April 24th! Please come support\, and give your feedback on their prototypes. Please RSVP at the link below and feel free to share this invite as well. \nDate: Saturday\, April 24\, 2021\, 9:00 a.m. – 10:130 a.m. \nMeeting Link \n(please use the RSVP link below in gray before joining the meeting) \nMeeting Number: 120 505 3012 \nPassword: online \n

SUMMARY:Altino Scratch: June 3 - Hawaii PD Course | Introduction to the Principles of Programming
DESCRIPTION:What:  For 2021-22\, we have six PDE3 teacher trainings scheduled for computer science.  Learn to code and apply principles of computer science to your classroom. \nWhy:  Computer Science (CS) is a 21st century career choice but more importantly CS is about learning how to think creatively and logically. Also\, CS is required in every public high school in Hawaii starting in 2021-22 school year via Act 51. New legislation will bring computer science to elementary and middle schools by 2025. \nWho: Designed for K-12 teachers to teach coding. DOE approved for 3 credits. Open statewide. \nHow: We kick off live online at 8:00am\, but most of your training is via self-paced videos and online support from our Altino instructors. \nExperience level: No prior computer science or coding experience required. \nSize: only 30 teachers per training.  Wait list for only 10. \nCost:  $0\, but if you register and are a “no show”\, or you drop without a good reason\, you may not be allowed to attend this training again. Based on 3 years of delivering this training\, you should budget 50  to 75 hours to learn the materials and to complete your portfolio – three lessons with three student samples per lesson plan. This is a demanding training – if you are awarded 3 credits it’s because you earned it.     \nSponsors:  Public Schools of Hawaii Foundation\, Kamehameha Schools\, Oceanit Research Foundation\, Toyota Hawaii\, Department of Labor. \nContact: Brett Tanaka at OCID \nVisit HIDOE’s PDE3 website linked below and search ‘Altino’.

SUMMARY:No Limits at Oceanit presents: Noam Chomsky
DESCRIPTION:Know Thyself: Language\, Creative Intelligence\, and the Fate of the Human Experiment\nNoam Chomsky explores questions from philosophy to science; confronting problems from alternative facts and social media to inequality and climate change\nOceanit is honored to host our colleague\, Professor Noam Chomsky\, and excited to invite you to this virtual event as he explores deep questions on the nature of mind\, language\, and creativity. Taken together with inequality\, the emergence of alternative facts\, social media\, and climate\, he will discuss how this all informs current actions and challenges\, as well as the fate of the Human Experiment. \nNo Limits™ at Oceanit is a speaker series designed to stretch our imaginations and examine how vision and risk stimulate discovery and achievement. We aspire to host the most interesting thinkers in science\, engineering\, business\, and community to share their creative genius and innovative mindsets on problem solving – beyond the limits of traditional thinking. \nRegarded as the founder of modern linguistics and philosophy\, Dr. Chomsky is one of the most cited scholars in modern history\, whose more than 100 groundbreaking books have revolutionized our understanding of language and the mind. The impact of his work extends to cognitive neuroscience\, evolutionary biology\, mathematics\, computer science\, anthropology\, and education. \nIn parallel\, as one of the most influential public intellectuals in the world\, his critical analyses of public and private power have inspired many for more than half a century. Dr. Chomsky served as Institute Professor of Linguistics and Philosophy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1955 to 2017\, when he joined the University of Arizona as Laureate Professor of Linguistics and the Agnese Nelms Haury Chair in Environment and Social Justice. \nRSVP

SUMMARY:No Limits at Oceanit presents: Aaron Robinson
DESCRIPTION:No Limits: Innovation Toward a Decarbonized Aviation Industry\n\nAs practitioners of disruptive innovation through our Intellectual Anarchy discipline\, Oceanit forges partnerships with some of the most innovative organizations and thinkers in the world – covering a wide range of industries — from medicine and aerospace\, to energy and cosmetics.   All share the (un)common thread of innovation\, a thread that runs through intelligence\, risk-taking\, and perseverance\, which informs our philosophical foundation of new breakthroughs and discoveries. Through our No Limits speaker series\, Oceanit is delighted to share fascinating stories from people who move beyond what’s thinkable\, sometimes what’s considered impossible – until it’s not. \nOceanit is honored to welcome Aaron Robinson\, Senior Manager of Environmental Sustainability at United Airlines\, as our new No Limits speaker. No Limits™ at Oceanit is a speaker series designed to stretch our imaginations and examine how vision and risk stimulate discovery and achievement. We aspire to host the most interesting thinkers in science\, engineering\, business\, and community to share their creative genius and innovative mindsets on problem solving – beyond the limits of traditional thinking. \nThe aviation industry is a highly visible emitter of carbon\, accounting for approximately 2.5% of global CO2 emissions. Ironically\, the very industry that has brought enormous prosperity to places like Hawaii since the early days of trans-pacific flight\, is now at risk of negatively impacting the same communities via the unintended consequence of climate impact and sea level rise.  United has committed to being 100% green by 2050 – reducing their greenhouse gas emissions by 100%\, without relying on offsets. To accomplish this lofty goal\, United is embracing innovations in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF)\, carbon capture and sequestration technologies\, alternatively-powered aircraft\, and more. The Eco-Skies program and its Eco-Skies Alliance\, a first-of-its-kind program\, serve that goal by supporting innovation and involving global partners to help make sustainable aviation not just a reality\, but the new normal. We are happy to welcome Aaron Robinson\, United’s champion for the Eco-Skies vision\, as our No Limits speaker on July 29th\, 2021. \nPlease email nolimits@oceanit.com for more information.

SUMMARY:SPARK Day: NPL - Next Generation Corrosion Protection in the Aviation Industry
DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday\, November 9th\, from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm CST (16:30 GMT)\, Oceanit and its partners will be hosting a SPARK day featuring Nanocomposite Protective Layer (NPL) Technology – Next Generation Corrosion Protection in the Aviation Industry via a live ZOOM presentation. SPARK stands for Special Presentation of Advanced Research & Knowledge.  SPARK is a special one-day event focusing on advanced product deployments for different industries.  Oceanit is a mind to market company reimagining innovation to break the bonds of normal and solve the impossible. \nIn the aviation world\, the process of protecting metallic airframes and components against corrosion is a challenge – from manufacturing through the entire life cycle of the product.  Current organic-based technologies with multiple layers of protection can still fail to protect the metallic substrate from corrosion damage.  In addition\, the high toxicity of ‘traditional’ CICs makes handling and application a hazardous process for personnel. With NPL water-based technology\, Oceanit aims to mitigate current corrosion protection challenges while reducing the footprint on the environment and enhancing safety for applicators.  In addition to NPL technology\, Oceanit will also present disruptive technologies related to anti-icing/de-icing\, automated plating processes\, and decarbonization in aviation. Guest speakers for this event will include aircraft maintenance experts\, major industry contributors\, and Oceanit technology leaders\, More below. \nZOOM event details will be sent via email in advance of November 9th.

SUMMARY:SPARK Day: Surface Treatment Approaches to Address Flow Assurance Issues
DESCRIPTION:On November 18th\, Oceanit and its partners will be hosting a SPARK day entitled “Surface Treatment Approaches to Address Flow Assurance Issues” via a live ZOOM presentation. SPARK stands for Special Presentation of Advanced Research & Knowledge. These special one-day events are focused on Oceanit’s advanced product deployments. \nFlow assurance issues associated with oil and gas pipelines remain central to economic and safe development of fields. Major flow assurance related challenges include corrosion\, erosion and deposition of different solids on the surface (such as hydrates\, waxes\, asphaltenes etc). These issues are frequently managed using highly expensive remediation steps including thermal\, chemical\, or mechanical means to reduce the risk of deposition. Unmitigated accumulation of these solids can lead to safety concerns as well as costly maintenance\, including the possibility of complete plugging of lines in worst-case scenarios. Oceanit\, in collaboration with the Colorado School of Mines Center for Hydrate Research and the Department of Energy/National Energy Technology Laboratory\, will present recent findings on Surface Treatment Nanocomposite Technologies which offer an alternative method of passive treatment for flow assurance solids. Guest speakers for this event will include subject matter experts from Colorado School of Mines\, Department of Energy\, major industry contributors\, as well as Oceanit technology leaders. \nIf you are interested in tuning in to this SPARK day\, please contact info@oceanit.com.  ZOOM invites will be sent via email in advance of the November date.

SUMMARY:Altino Scratch: June 1 - Hawaii PDE3 Scratch Course | Trainings for Teachers

SUMMARY:HBMF 2022 | Noam Chomsky & Jeffrey Watumull: Life\, Information\, Language\, Intelligence
DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, October 27th at 4:00pm Hawaii Time\, Oceanit’s Chief Philosophy Officer and Director of AI\, Jeffrey Watumull will be joined by Dr. Noam Chomsky to discuss their forthcoming book\, Life\, Information\, Language\, Intelligence. \nWhat is Life? What is Intelligence? These questions animated ancient philosophy\, and in our time reanimate philosophic and scientific creativity to discover their answers in the modern context of astrobiology\, artificial life\, and artificial intelligence: Are we alone? Can machines think? Chomsky and Watumull present four fundamental conjectures contending that these questions can be answered in a grand unified explanatory theory. \nRegister at the HBMF event website link below. This session is part of the Hawaii Book & Music Festival 2022\, this special innovation session is titled: Innovation – Noam Chomsky and Jeffrey Watumull – Life\, Information\, Language\, Intelligence \nRegarded as the founder of modern linguistics and philosophy\, Dr. In parallel\, as one of the most influential public intellectuals in the world\, his critical analyses of public and private power have inspired many for more than half a century. Dr. Chomsky served as Institute Professor of Linguistics and Philosophy at MIT from 1955 to 2017\, when he joined the University of Arizona as Laureate Professor of Linguistics and the Agnese Nelms Haury Chair in Environment and Social Justice. \nDr. Jeffrey Watumull is Chief Philosophy Officer and Director of AI at Oceanit\, where he endeavors to\ncreate human-style AI and discover whether its principles obtain in extralinguistic domains (e.g.\, physics\,\nbiology). He is also an affiliated professor at the University of Cambridge and cofounder of the Cambridge Institute for Exo-Language. Watumull was trained at Cambridge\, MIT\, Oxford\, and Harvard.

SUMMARY:Hydrogen Engineering Challenges II: Pipeline Infrastructure Event by Darcy Partners
DESCRIPTION:Oceanit Dr. Vinod Veedu will join a Darcy Partners panel event on Tuesday\, February 14\, 2023: Hydrogen Engineering Challenges II: Pipeline Infrastructure. \nAs Hydrogen energy projects move further into development as part of a global energy transformation\, technology solutions are needed to tackle the unique engineering challenges that these projects bring. This event will be the second of a series highlighting solutions in this space\, this time: Pipeline Infrastructure. Darcy’s Hydrogen Engineering Challenges event series covers technologies such as hydrogen specific compressors\, sensors\, flow meters\, pipelines/pipeline coatings to combat embrittlement\, purification technology\, and more. In their inaugural Hydrogen Engineering Challenges Event in December\, they covered the topic of storage infrastructure\, and in this February 2023 event\, will be highlighting solutions to address the massive infrastructure challenges of Hydrogen transmission/distribution in pipeline infrastructure. \nDue to the chemical differences of hydrogen\, there are major infrastructure considerations with storage and transport that need to be considered\, even in blending applications. Many utilities have started planning for feasibility studies to understand the effect blending hydrogen into vintage infrastructure would have\, but solutions are needed from new compressor equipment\, leakproof valves\, integrated leak detection devices\, different welding techniques\, materials\, and even pipeline retrofits. In this event\, Oceanit’s Vinod Veedu will be joined by Robin McIntosh\, Director of Operations at SmartPipe along with their user\, Enbridge\, represented by Alex MacLean. \n\nSpeakers:\n– Donny T. McCallum\, Chief Financial Officer at SmartPipe Technologies\n– Vinod Veedu – Director of Strategic Initiatives at Oceanit\n– Alex MacLean – Strategy & Market Innovation\, Low Carbon Development at Enbridge
