About Us

What is Oceanit? A science, technology, engineering company — and so much more.

Our story

Oceanit began in the middle of the Pacific with just $100 and a bold vision. Starting in Hawaiʻi, far from traditional tech hubs, gave us the freedom to rethink innovation — blending science, engineering, and business in entirely new ways.

This unique perspective shaped our “Mind to Market” approach; we always start with fundamental science to solve problems, and transform those ideas into solutions that impact individual humans and society at large.

Patrick K. Sullivan, co-founder and CEO, is also the author of “Intellectual Anarchy: The Art of Disruptive Innovation” (2020) and featured essayist in “AI at War: How Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning Are Changing Naval Warfare” (2021).

40 years of excellence

Oceanit recently celebrated its 40th anniversary. See where those years have taken us.

Our approach

Oceanit operates in domains where surface-level solutions fall short. We work with complex systems, emerging technologies, and hard problems that demand deep technical expertise and cross-disciplinary thinking.

Our teams draw from physics, mathematics, materials science, biology, data science, and engineering to develop solutions that are grounded in first principles, validated through testing, and proven in real-world conditions.

This depth allows us to move beyond incremental improvement and deliver meaningful, durable innovation.

Who we work with

Our impact

Oceanit’s impact is measured by performance, resilience, and real-world outcomes. We help partners reduce risk, improve systems, and make informed decisions, turning deep science into lasting value.

Why deep tech matters

The world’s most important challenges can’t be solved with surface-level solutions. Oceanit's approach is different.

Deep tech addresses problems rooted in complex systems, where progress depends on fundamental science, advanced engineering, and long-term thinking. These challenges demand more than software layers or incremental optimization; they require new materials, new models, new methods, and rigorous validation.

At Oceanit, deep tech matters because it enables:

  • Durable solutions, not temporary fixes
  • System-level impact, not isolated improvements
  • Performance in real-world conditions, not just controlled environments

By grounding innovation in deep science and carrying it through to deployment, Oceanit helps partners reduce risk, make smarter decisions, and build technologies that endure.

“Disruptive innovation pushes science and invention past the bounds of what’s considered possible. Disruption exists at the fine wrinkle between failure and discovery. It’s not easy, but with practice, one can learn to get comfortable riding the ragged edge of the knowledge abyss.”

– Dr. Patrick K. Sullivan, CEO & Founder
