Hawaii Book & Music Festival 2021 | Conversation: A.I. to E.T. – The Future of Science & Technology and the Fate of Our Civilization and the Cosmos

Virtual Event

On Thursday, October 28 from 5:30 - 6:30pm , Dr. Jeffrey Watumull will join host Stewart Yerton for a conversation titled, "A.I. to E.T. - The Future of Science & Technology and the Fate of Our Civilization and the Cosmos." Dr. Jeffrey Watumull is Chief Philosophy Officer and Director of AI at Oceanit, where we are endeavoring to create human-style AI and discover whether its principles obtain in extralinguistic domains (e.g., physics, biology). He is also co-founder of the Cambridge Institute for Exo-Language. Dr. Watumull studied at Cambridge, MIT, Oxford, and Harvard. Stewart Yerton reports on business and the economy for Honolulu Civil Beat. Those are subjects he spent more than a decade reporting on — at publications in New York, New Orleans and Honolulu. RSVP at the link below. The 16th annual Hawaii Book & Music Festival returns virtually, October 1 – November 4, with its core program of Hawai‘i Authors, and community thought leaders and experts in Hawai‘i Sustainability & Resilience, Health & Wellness, Innovation Future, Hawaiian Culture, amplified by national and international Authors addressing some of the greatest issues for Hawai’i’s future.

SPARK Day: NPL – Next Generation Corrosion Protection in the Aviation Industry

Virtual Event

On Tuesday, November 9th, from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm CST (16:30 GMT), Oceanit and its partners will be hosting a SPARK day featuring Nanocomposite Protective Layer (NPL) Technology - Next Generation Corrosion Protection in the Aviation Industry via a live ZOOM presentation. SPARK stands for Special Presentation of Advanced Research & Knowledge.  SPARK is a special one-day event focusing on advanced product deployments for different industries.  Oceanit is a mind to market company reimagining innovation to break the bonds of normal and solve the impossible. In the aviation world, the process of protecting metallic airframes and components against corrosion is a challenge - from manufacturing through the entire life cycle of the product.  Current organic-based technologies with multiple layers of protection can still fail to protect the metallic substrate from corrosion damage.  In addition, the high toxicity of 'traditional' CICs makes handling and application a hazardous process for personnel. With NPL water-based technology, Oceanit aims to mitigate current corrosion protection challenges while reducing the footprint on the environment and enhancing safety for applicators.  In addition to NPL technology, Oceanit will also present disruptive technologies related to anti-icing/de-icing, automated plating processes, and decarbonization in aviation. Guest speakers for this event will include aircraft maintenance experts, major industry contributors, and Oceanit technology leaders, More below. ZOOM event details will be sent via email in advance of November 9th.

SPARK Day: Surface Treatment Approaches to Address Flow Assurance Issues

Virtual Event

On November 18th, Oceanit and its partners will be hosting a SPARK day entitled “Surface Treatment Approaches to Address Flow Assurance Issues” via a live ZOOM presentation. SPARK stands for Special Presentation of Advanced Research & Knowledge. These special one-day events are focused on Oceanit’s advanced product deployments. Flow assurance issues associated with oil and gas pipelines remain central to economic and safe development of fields. Major flow assurance related challenges include corrosion, erosion and deposition of different solids on the surface (such as hydrates, waxes, asphaltenes etc). These issues are frequently managed using highly expensive remediation steps including thermal, chemical, or mechanical means to reduce the risk of deposition. Unmitigated accumulation of these solids can lead to safety concerns as well as costly maintenance, including the possibility of complete plugging of lines in worst-case scenarios. Oceanit, in collaboration with the Colorado School of Mines Center for Hydrate Research and the Department of Energy/National Energy Technology Laboratory, will present recent findings on Surface Treatment Nanocomposite Technologies which offer an alternative method of passive treatment for flow assurance solids. Guest speakers for this event will include subject matter experts from Colorado School of Mines, Department of Energy, major industry contributors, as well as Oceanit technology leaders. If you are interested in tuning in to this SPARK day, please contact [email protected].  ZOOM invites will be sent via email in advance of the November date.

What Schools Could Be — Game Changer Series: A Conversation with Ian Kitajima

Virtual Event

Join What Schools Could Be for a Game Changer Series conversation with Oceanit's Director of Corporate Development, Ian Kitajima. Ian is best known as the “Technology Sherpa” at Oceanit – a “Mind to Market” innovation lab of 160 scientists, engineers, technologists, designers, and dreamers conducting advance technology development research for government and private clients worldwide. On Thursday, January 20, from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM HST (7:00 PM Eastern), Ian will join host Ted Dintersmith to talk about Oceanit's SURF program and educational initiatives focused on bringing innovation, computer science, coding, and Design Thinking to our schools. Oceanit's SURF program is focused on empowering students and educators with new super powers for the future. RSVP by clicking the Eventbrite link below! As Oceanit's Technology Sherpa, his role is to move science and technology breakthroughs from the lab to the marketplace, which has included opening the South Korean market since 2014, and 3 venture backed Oceanit startups as a co-founder at Hoana Medical, Nanopoint, and Ibis Networks. He is the co-founder of the Design Thinking Hawaii movement beginning in 2010, the "Altino" movement in 2017 to teach 5000 non-technical teachers creative problem solving skills via computer programming so every student in Hawaii can be exposed to Computer Science, and the Aloha AI Network in 2019 to put the future of Artificial Intelligence into the hands of teachers and students now.
