Abrasive blasting hits noise limits for safety in industrial use
Abrasive blasting, also known as sand blasting, is used in industrial manufacturing to roughen smooth surfaces, smooth rough surfaces, strip paint, or remove contaminants from a surface. But there’s one significant drawback: typical abrasive blasting can reach 115dB, a noise level OSHA classifies as hazardous. At this level, exposure is limited to just 15 minutes per work day.
02
Blast Ninja is a quiet nozzle that doesn’t compromise on quality
Enter the Blast Ninja™; a new nozzle from Oceanit that reduces typical sound levels down by 17dB, making noise levels safe for up to four hours of exposure per day. The nozzle reduces the air exit velocity and sound pressure level, while preserving particle velocity to maintain equal abrasive power. Blast Ninja™ reduces distraction and liability risks while maintaining effectiveness.
03
Why it matters
Oceanit’s innovative noise-reduction blasting technology was originally developed for Department of Defense workers who have to maintain heavy machinery in adverse conditions. This technology improves the health and safety of industrial workers who regularly encounter the high-decibel noise levels associated with abrasive blasting.
"It's the only one that we've found that does, in fact, reduce the noise."
Michael Fish, an MD&A Senior EHS Specialist, was skeptical of Blast Ninja’s claims — until he tried it for himself.
