Oceanit recently had the opportunity to apply EverPel, an omniphobic treatment for ship surfaces, on a Self Defense Test Ship (SDTS) at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Port Hueneme, California.
During the Coastal Trident series of Advanced Naval Technology Exercises, held from June through September, three Oceanit employees applied EverPel to portions of newly painted sections of the fantail, half of the bulkhead, and three angle irons.
“We have performed controlled lab tests in salt fog chambers and outdoor tests on metal samples in marine environments, but the SDTS is our first direct application to a Navy vessel,” said Kaylee Clark, a senior chemical engineer at Oceanit. “Based on these controlled tests, we are hoping our coating will perform for two or more years.”
