Oceanit to Showcase Breakthrough Energy Technologies and a Method for Consistently Delivering Disruptive Technology at 2026 Offshore Technology Conference (OTC)

Oceanit, a Hawai‘i-based science and technology company, to discuss successful results of its DragX nanocomposite technology for pipelines in Basra, Iraq with collaborators Eni S.p.A and Basra Oil Company. Oceanit CEO Dr. Patrick Sullivan to deliver a keynote on “Intellectual Anarchy” and Mind-to-Market innovation.

Houston, TX – April 30, 2026 – Oceanit, a Hawai‘i-based science and technology company, will unveil groundbreaking results at the 2026 Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), spotlighting how innovation born from Oceanit’s “Mind-to-Market” approach is transforming the energy sector.

During the OTC technical program, Oceanit—together with Eni S.p.A and Basra Oil Company—will present a landmark technical paper detailing a successful deployment of its DragX nanocomposite technology in Iraq that delivers field-proven improvements in corrosion resistance and flow assurance. The technology offers the potential to dramatically reduce infrastructure maintenance costs and operational downtime, marking a major step forward in sustainable energy operations for pipelines across the region.

Field-Proven Results in Basra Oil Field

The white paper outlines a six-month field demonstration in Basra, Iraq where internal corrosion and fouling have historically caused significant operating challenges in oil and water pipelines. Nanocomposite treated pipeline sections demonstrated striking improvements compared with untreated controls:

  • Up to 177× reduction in corrosion rates over a 6-month period in severe corrosion environments.
  • Maintained structural integrity, omniphobic performance, and adhesion with no signs of wear or delamination.
  • Economic modeling over 100 km of flowlines projects an 81% reduction in production downtime.

Beyond cost savings, it was successfully demonstrated that the nanocomposite could be applied in austere, remote environments by training local operators, providing local jobs and environmental benefits to the surrounding communities.

Attend Oceanit’s OTC Technical Session

Oceanit will discuss this field demonstration during OTC’s technical program at NRG Park in Houston, Texas, on Monday, May 4, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. CT. The presentation, titled “Field Validation of Nanocomposite Surface Treatment to High-Risk Flowlines for Enhanced Corrosion Mitigation and Flow Assurance,” will be delivered by representatives from Oceanit and Eni S.p.A.

  • Session:Field Validation of Nanocomposite Surface Treatment to High-Risk Flowlines for Enhanced Corrosion Mitigation and Flow Assurance
  • Date & Time: Monday, May 4, 10:30–12:30 p.m. CT
  • Location: NRG Park, Houston, TX

Dr. Patrick Sullivan Luncheon Keynote

Later that day, Dr. Patrick Sullivan, Founder and CEO of Oceanit, will deliver a lunchtime keynote address at OTC titled “Intellectual Anarchy™: The Art of Disruptive Innovation.” Dr. Sullivan will introduce Oceanit’s “Mind-to-Market” framework, a methodology for delivering disruptive technology solutions to complex, seemingly impossible problems and translating them into market-ready technologies. His remarks will explore how unconventional thinking and persistent innovation can unlock new breakthroughs for the energy sector and beyond.

Growing Impact from Hawai‘i to Houston

Founded in 1985, Oceanit expanded from its roots in Honolulu, Hawai‘i, to a growing presence in Houston, Texas, applying its “Mind-to-Market” philosophy across industries including energy, aerospace, defense, and healthcare. At OTC 2026, Oceanit’s dual presence in technical development and innovation leadership underscores how disruptive science can help reshape global energy markets.
