HONOLULU, HI (June 2026) — Oceanit has been recognized by the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Hawaii at the 2026 Engineering Excellence Awards for its work on the ʻAliomanu Road Repairs project on Kauaʻi.

Completed in December 2024, the project restored ʻAliomanu Road along Anahola Bay, a vital coastal roadway that provides the only vehicular and emergency access for residents north of Anahola Stream. The roadway had been significantly impacted by ongoing coastal erosion, creating immediate safety hazards and requiring urgent stabilization.

Oceanit implemented an innovative, phased approach that combined rapid emergency response with long-term resilience planning. Temporary stabilization measures utilized biodegradable coir sandbags to reduce erosion while minimizing environmental impact. At the same time, Oceanit advanced permanent design, environmental analysis, and permitting in parallel, reducing delays and accelerating overall project delivery.

The final solution included construction of a 450-foot rock revetment, reuse of on-site materials, and restoration of the roadway pavement. Oceanit practiced transparent decision making and community engagement throughout the project cycle.

The project restored safe and reliable access for the community while balancing environmental stewardship, regulatory compliance, and community priorities. It stands as a model for addressing climate-driven coastal hazards in vulnerable regions.

This recognition from ACEC Hawaii highlights Oceanit’s commitment to delivering innovative, resilient engineering solutions that protect communities and infrastructure while advancing sustainable coastal practices.
