28 December 2022, Honolulu HI | On Wednesday, Oceanit CEO, Dr. Patrick Sullivan joined KHON2’s Gina Mangieri in-studio to discuss ASSURE-100’s at-home authorization and explain how such feats of science are no longer about geography.
On December 22, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration granted an over-the-counter emergency use authorization (EUA) for the ASSURE-100 Rapid COVID-19 Test, which had previously been authorized for point-of-care only. The at-home authorization now paves the way for Oceanit to ramp up production of ASSURE-100 and renew conversations about stocking the test in stores across Hawaii, the US, and beyond.
The accomplishment demonstrates what can be done in Hawaii, outside of the traditional venture hubs and R&D regions of the counter. “It’s really about imagination,” Dr. Sullivan said, “you need imagination, and education.”
