Tech Sherpa and self-professed Oceanit troublemaker Ian Kitajima was nominated by a member of the community as a Hero of Aloha, a new recognition program championed by Star Advertiser. These Heroes of Aloha are chosen for helping move our Hawaiian community forward in meaningful ways while the current world climate is best described as challenging.

Ian and the SURF team has risen to the challenge of COVID-19, continuing to work on online courses for Altino, Design Thinking, and more. Delivering out-of-the-box solutions to the overarching limitations of social distancing and quarantining has led to a larger reach by our educational outreach programs.

We’re proud to have Ian as a member of our Ohana, and grateful for a community that appreciates and supports our efforts in improving Hawai’i for our future generations.
