Oceanit’s “mind-to-market” business practice consistently engages complex problems that produce disruptive results and technology. However, unless this disruptive technology can be delivered into the marketplace to be adopted by humans or society, it’s like “one hand clapping.” This realization led Oceanit to build a human-centered approach to technology adoption, ultimately embracing Design Thinking as developed and taught at Stanford University. Although this sounds simple, it has been a convoluted journey over the last 5 to 6 years that has resulted in a new capability at Oceanit that not only addresses new technology adoption and product realization, but also business processes. This new capability is now fully integrated into Oceanit’s consulting practices.

In the beginning, Oceanit helped develop and manage the Hawaii Design Thinking bootcamp to teach educators to use Design Thinking as a “common language and process around innovation,” increasing the volume of conversation around creative competency in education. Later, the bootcamp expanded to include large business and government organizations. Oceanit initially provided this as pro-bono community service, without any compensation. However, the overwhelming demand required Oceanit to reconsider its limited approach and begin embracing these calls for help, engaging multiple organizations in need of business process re-engineering and organizational change management.

Today, as featured in a recent Pacific Business News article, Oceanit provides business transformation consulting to both state government and Hawaii-based companies. Implementing this method has proven successful for a wide range of Hawaii customers in business, education, government, and the private sector.
