Maui’s lush south shore played host to Hawaii’s executives in April to discuss how to bring together the traditional culture of Hawaii and the changing world around us into one plan for the future. The Hawaii Executive Conference provides an invitation-only forum for senior executives, whose leadership is recognizable either by their level of leadership in their organization or their influence in the community, to exchange ideas, engage in meaningful dialogue, and initiate positive change. Conference panels included frank discussions on worldwide economic, political, cultural, and environmental changes and how Hawaii-based businesses can navigate through this evolution; innovations in transportation and how they will change the ways in which we move; and the political gridlock and what it means for Hawaii.

Oceanit’s Tiare Martin was a featured speaker on the “Young Disruptors Panel.” Tiare brought a local perspective to the discussion on how disruptive ideas occur and take root in an environment of rapid change, while sharing Oceanit’s “Mind to Market” approach of bringing disruptive thinking, science, and engineering to create new knowledge and technology to society. This approach leverages customer engagement, transdisciplinary teams, and a culture of innovation, to deliver disruptive solutions to the market where Oceanit will deliver targeted, scalable technology. This unique approach connects “deep science” with customer-focused products. Tiare was joined on the panel by Evan Rapoport, product manager for the Google X Rapid Evaluation team; Dawn Lippert, co-founder and director for Energy Excelerator; and C. Tyson Weihs, co-founder and CEO for Foreflight with Kelvin Taketa from the Hawaii Community Foundation as moderator.

The Hawaii Executive Conference was established in 1963 by the Hawaiian Educational Council, a nonprofit corporation dedicated to the health and vitality of Hawaii’s business and education communities.
