28 April 2022, Dallas, TX | The AeroPel NPL team was in Dallas last week for the Aviation Week Network’s MRO Americas event. MRO stands for Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul and the conference in Dallas brought together over 800 exhibitors and solution providers from around the aviation world.
In aviation, MRO refers to the specific repair, service or inspection of an aircraft. The practice encompasses all maintenance activities done to ensure the safety and airworthiness of any aircraft. The 2022 MRO Americas event served as a debut for AeroPel and its various nanocomposite protective layer (NPL) lines.
AeroPel NPL was featured by Aviation Week in the Sustainability Zone – a pavilion dedicated to companies that are tackling today’s issues for a sustainable tomorrow. High amongst those priorities are decarbonization for the aviation industry. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) 77th Annual General Meeting, held in October 2021, approved a resolution for the global air transport industry to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
AeroPel NPL is a water-based coating that can reduce or eliminate the need for highly toxic – and heavy – CIC products. For example, an average 737-800 aircraft has approximately 10,400 ft2 (966 m2) of surface area coated with CIC. AeroPel NPL could save up to 200 lbs. (91 kg) over CIC in dry weight, equaling a savings of 4,000 gallons (15,142 liters) of fuel, $16,000 in cost, and approximately 84,500 lbs. (38,330 kg) of carbon dioxide equivalent per aircraft, each year.
On day one of MRO Americas, AeroPel team member Chris Tonthat delivered a presentation on NPL at the MRO’s ‘Go Live’ stage. Chris spoke about how, unlike traditional corrosion inhibiting compounds, NPL is a sustainable, zero-VOC, water-based technology. He discussed how NPL imparts low surface energy characteristics to protect substrates by repelling moisture that can initiate the corrosion process as well as the other major benefits of NPL, including durability in all environments, the simple application process with minimal PPE required, and faster curing times for greater productivity and workflow.
Oceanit is honored to have participated in Aviation Week’s MRO Americas 2022. We’re excited to continue introducing the world to AeroPel NPL, the solution for 21st century aviation.
