Here at Oceanit, we like to refer to our Design Thinking process as thinking like a child — being creative, low risk for mistakes, and the idea that anything is possible. What we sometimes forget to share is that we also like to have fun.

Every year our student interns hold a fundraiser for Aloha United Way to support the community in providing school supplies for disadvantaged children. This year, our interns outdid themselves. To raise funds, they set up a week of activities and a running raffle with prizes such as Hydro flask holders and a one-night staycation.

To kick off the week, the student interns held a donation drive where employees could drop off school supplies, as well as donate cash. Following this, they hosted a mini-golf tournament, set up office candy grams, had employees pretend to be assassins for a day, and conducted a food run which delivered lunch to employees’ desks. Each employee was charged a few dollars to participate in each activity and all proceeds were donated to Aloha United Way.

At the end of the fundraisers, the seven interns raised a remarkable $1,175. This is nearly double the amount we have raised in past years!

The experience as a whole aims to gather funds for a good cause, but does a great job bringing the office together. Everyone from the employees to the interns holding the events had a good time. One of our interns, Ivy Fernandes said, “the activities that we hosted I felt were very inclusive of the entire Oceanit ‘Ohana. I felt it was a great bonding experience for the interns and for the whole company.”

At Oceanit, one of the aspects that sets us apart from our competitors is the way we think – our Design Thinking.  One of the aspects that sets us apart from other firms is the type of environment we provide for our employees. Treating our workplace as more than just a place to work is only the beginning. We want each person at Oceanit to feel a part of a family, an Oceanit ‘Ohana.
